Check Your Faith in the Storm

Weathering Life’s Storms: A Faithful Perspective on Challenges

There are moments when life forces us to pause and ask a hard but necessary question: Where is my faith right now? Sometimes it’s triggered by a personal crisis. Other times, it’s something as tangible as a winter storm that shuts everything down and exposes what we’re truly prepared for.

Recently, as I reflected during a stormy season, God gently but firmly reminded me of something powerful: the winds, the waves, the snow, the ice — all of it obeys Him. And that realization led me to look inward. Not at my pantry. Not at my plans. But at my posture.

The Call to Prayer and Preparedness

When storms come, our instinct is to prepare physically. We stock up. We secure what we can. And while that’s wise, God checked me with this truth: spiritual preparedness matters more than physical readiness.

Yes, prepare your home. But have you prepared your heart?

In moments like these, my first response has to be prayer — not panic. Interceding for those impacted. Covering families. Asking God to steady not just the environment around us, but the spirit within us. Storms have a way of revealing what we’re anchored to.

Remembering the Power of Jesus in the Storm

Luke 8:22–25 has been sitting heavily with me:

Jesus and His disciples set out on a boat. A storm arose. The disciples panicked — and Jesus slept.

These weren’t inexperienced men. They knew these waters. Yet fear overtook them. And what struck me most is this: Jesus had already shown them who He was. They had witnessed miracles. Authority. Power. And still, they questioned.

How often do we do the same?

We forget who is with us in the storm.

Check Your Spiritual Positioning

The question I had to ask myself — and I’m asking you too — is simple but sobering:

Is Jesus in your boat?

Not in theory. Not in routine. But in relationship.

Storms expose whether we’re coasting on past encounters or actively trusting God in the present moment. Faith isn’t about proximity to church or familiarity with Scripture alone. It’s about intimacy. Trust. Dependence.

If Jesus is truly in the boat, fear doesn’t get the final say.

Learning to Rest Like Jesus

Here’s what challenged me the most: Jesus rested in the storm.

He wasn’t dismissive of the danger — He was confident in His authority. And that’s the invitation for us. To rest, not because the storm isn’t real, but because God is greater.

Faith has to outweigh fear.

We have been given authority in Christ to speak to our circumstances — not from arrogance, but from alignment. When fear rises, I’m learning to ask myself: Am I reacting like the world, or responding like someone who knows who God is?

Rise Up: A Call to Action

Storms will come. That’s not the question. The question is how we show up when they do.

I believe this is a season for us to rise up in faith — not shrinking back, not panicking, not forgetting who we belong to. The storms of life are real, but they are not our identity.

We are anchored in Christ.

So I’m choosing to check my faith in the storm. To strengthen my prayer life. To deepen my relationship with God. To prepare spiritually, not just practically.

Because when you know who’s in your boat, you can weather anything.

Faith is our anchor. Prayer is our posture. And trust is our response.

The winds and waves still obey Him — and so does every storm we face.
